We have had an interesting term based on the theme of Cartooning. A student article is included to inform you of what activities we covered.CLAY CARTOON CHARACTERThis term we have focused on Cartooning and have been doing a range of activities and projects. We’ve been writing stories, typing reports but the most magical and fun project has been creating our very own cartoon characters and bringing them to life with modelling clay. The first step we took was to design an original and creative character. The brief was to make sure it wasn’t similar to other cartoon characters. It also couldn’t be something you can find in everyday life. For instance, if I wanted to create a rabbit, there would have to be an underlying feature to make it unrealistic, so I could make it pink or give it wings.Your cartoon character could be an object. Everyone made amazing, creative designs that looked awesome. Once we had finished the design we didn’t need Mr. Rajecki to check it, as he would only tell you to restart whilst you were making it or once you had finished it if it didn’t fit the brief. This was called quality control. The next stage was to start moulding it with the clay. There were lots of colours to choose from. This was the fun but difficult part. It took a while to master the technique but in the end it was easy. After this you could make a second one if you had time. Otherwise you made a name tag using coloured paper. The final stage was to take a photo. They turned out amazing and you could see the effort in the detail. It was fun to create our own characters and bring them to life.Marguerite Liddy – Morrow(Year 6 student, D2)
